DAN PERLMAN: No Notes. Except These.

I’m a comedian, writer, director person from New York City. I also have a cat.

Previously, I co-created, wrote, and starred in Showtime’s critically-acclaimed comedy series, Flatbush Misdemeanors, which ran for two seasons. I made my directorial debut in the Flatbush episode, “boomerang,” which Vulture praised for its “masterful direction.” That was nice of them to say. I’ve also written and directed these award-winning short films, Cramming and Practice Space, which are both special to me.

Before that, I co-created the prize-winning digital series of Flatbush, which served as the foundation for the Showtime show. Made on zero-budget, the first installment became Oscar-qualified after winning Grand Jury Awards in its film festival run.

I’ve done other things. I released a stand-up album, Emergency Contact, which you can hear on all audio platforms or just on my YouTube channel for free. My writing has appeared in The New Yorker. I wrote and sold an animated pilot, That’s My Bus!, to FOX. I’ve worked as a regular at the Comedy Cellar in New York City and headlined at venues across the country, including The Kennedy Center in DC, where I regret not dressing nicer for that show.

I like writing and creating stuff and expressing thoughts in different ways, so I’m experimenting with this form as a medium for that. I’m uncomfortable at the thought of writing in the first-person in this form, but maybe it will be okay. Maybe I’ll enjoy it, maybe you’ll enjoy it, maybe neither of us will enjoy it, it’s all on the table. Merrily we’ll roll along.
